Kamal Vatta
Director

Dr. Kamal Vatta is an agricultural economist specialising at the interface of economics with the natural resource degradation (specifically water), agriculture and rural development processes like labour markets. A gold-medalist in PhD Agricultural Economics from Punjab Agricultural University, he also has an advanced diploma in Agricultural Research for Development from International Center for Development oriented Research in Agriculture (ICRA), Wageningen, Netherlands.

Prior to joining CIPT as Director, Dr. Vatta was positioned as Associate Professor of Economics at Department of Economics and Sociology, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, India for six years from 2008 to 2013. His concurrent positions include: Adjunct Research Scientist at Columbia Water Center, The Earth Institute, Columbia University, New York, USA and Joint Secretary at Journal of Agricultural Development and Policy, Ludhiana, India. He has previously held the positions of Editor at Journal of Agricultural Development and Policy, Ludhiana, India and Member, Editorial Board, Journal of Agricultural Development and Policy, Ludhiana, India. Apart from these he is also a member of: Working Group, India Water Forum, New Delhi; Indian Society of Agricultural Economics, Mumbai; Indian Society of Agricultural Marketing, Nagpur; Agricultural Economics Research Association, New Delhi; Indian Society of Labour Economics, New Delhi; Indian Society for Agricultural Development and Policy, PAU, Ludhiana; Indian Economic Association, Patna; and Association of Agro-meteorologists, Gujarat.

Dr. Vatta is recognised for his contributions in the fields of research on sustainable agriculture, development economics and resource sustainability, and has been endowed with several awards and distinctions throughout his career. He has over 70 peer reviewed publications in the area of agriculture, economics and development, and has led more than 20 projects in various capacities in these fields both nationally and internationally.

Sandeep Dixit
Program Manager

Sandeep works as Program Manager at CIPT. The thrust areas of his work include water and sanitation, reproductive and child health and women rights. Sandeep has headed four large projects in domain of public health reforms, slum development, water and climate change and creating proof of concept for standardization of innovative health service delivery through public private partnerships addressing problems related to the poorest and deprived population.

Sandeep holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from XLRI and Master’s in Social Science. His experience spanning over a decade specializes in multi sector program operations, management, partnership building including contract negotiation, networking and organizational development. He has handled projects funded by USAID, Canadian International Development agency and DFID.

Garima Taneja
Senior Research Associate

Garima Taneja is an environmental economics postgraduate from TERI University, New Delhi. She had also attained a Bachelor’s degree in economics from Delhi University.

Prior to joining CIPT, she had been working as Senior Research Assistant at International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), New Delhi. At IFPRI, she was working on Climate Change Agriculture and food security (CCAFS) funded project on ‘Prioritizing climate–smart interventions in Indo-gangetic plains’, NAIP-ICAR funded project on ‘Impact assessment of capacity building programs under National Agricultural Innovation project’ and IFPRI RESAKSS- Asia project on ‘Agricultural development in Asian countries.’ She has published reports, IFPRI discussion papers and presented work at different seminars. Her expertise lies in conducting participatory rural appraisals, analysing data and cost-benefit analysis. Her areas of interest include agricultural, environment and development economics.

Ashish Bhardwaj
Fellow

An environment specialist by profession, Ashish works as Fellow with CIPT. His expertise lies in the area of research and analysis, project conceptualisation and management, monitoring and evaluation of projects and programmes, sustainability and water audits for industries. He has a vast experience of engaging with diverse group of industry representatives, government departments, civil society, bi and multilateral organisations.

Ashish is a post graduate in Environmental Studies from TERI University and specializes in the area of industrial water management, corporate sustainability, life cycle assessment, resource optimisation and policy advocacy.

Surya Pratap Singh
Finance Officer

Surya is Finance Office at CIPT. He holds a Bachelor degree in Commerce from Purvanchal University and has done a Diploma in Computer Financial Accounting. Prior to joining CIPT, Surya worked with Chintan Environmental Research and Action Group and Moser Baer Trust.

Surya specializes in financial reporting and has engaged with various bi / multi-lateral donor organisations and foundations. He is interested in developing strong internal controls and adherence to procedures and policies.

Parmpal Singh Chouhan
Project Associate

Parmpal is currently working as Project Associate at CIPT. He leads CIPTs efforts in developing web based decision support systems and android applications. He has a Master degree in Information Technology (IT) and has done Masters in Computer Applications (MCA) from Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar.

His experience mainly lies in developing applications and programmes, website development and strengthening the use of technology.

Himanshi Saini
Administration Assistant

Himanshi works as Administration Assistant at CIPT. She has done graduation in Arts from Delhi University and a certificate course in Business Organisation and Administration.

Himanshi specializes in office upkeep, book keeping, developing data bases, maintaining schedules and is the point person for office administration at CIPT.

Shweta Prajapati
Communication and Knowledge Management Officer

Shweta is a development communication professional majorly working in the field of environment communication. She is a postgraduate in Development Communication and Extension from University of Delhi. Before joining CIPT she worked as Assistant Professor at Department of Development Communication and Extension, Lady Irwin College, University of Delhi. Previously she has worked with Development Alternatives where her work focused on behavior change communication with rural communities. She has worked extensively with community radios in India on climate change communication and ICTs for development.

Parisha Budhiraja
Research Associate

Parisha works as Research Associate at CIPT. She has done her graduation, B.A. (Honors) Economics, from University of Delhi followed by post-graduation, M.Sc. Applied Economics, with specialization in environmental economics from Madras School of Economics, Chennai.

Her research interest lies in areas of impact evaluation, agricultural economics, environmental economics, and climate change. Prior to CIPT, Parisha was working as consultant with TERI, New Delhi where she was involved in assessing impact of shelterbelts in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. She has also worked as Research Associate with National Institute of Agricultural Economics and Policy Research, ICAR-NIAP, New Delhi. She had also worked as intern at Ministry of Environment, forest and Climate change, Government of India, New Delhi and assisted in evaluating revision of water cess rates.

Ranjodh Singh
Project Coordinator

Ranjodh Singh is an agricultural economist presently working as Project Coordinator with CIPT. A merit certificate holder in M.Sc. Agriculture Economics from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, he is a gold medalist in Senior Basketball Championship and All India Inter-Agricultural University Championship. Ranjodh is specialized in implementation of large scale research surveys and also manages various projects on ground.

Before joining CIPT, Ranjodh had completed a dissertation study on "availability and utilization pattern of green fodder in Punjab". His expertise lies in implementing any idea, building strong community networks and survey data analysis.

Gurpreet Singh
Associate Fellow

Dr. Gurpreet works as Associate Fellow at CIPT. His research interests lie in the area of agricultural economics, labour economics and political economy. He has completed his Ph.D. in economics from Centre for Economic Studies and Planning (CESP), JNU, New Delhi and MPhil from Centre for Development Studies (CDS), Trivandrum.

He has working experience with academic institutions, research agencies and civil society organisations. Previously, he worked at National Institute for Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP) and Institute for Social Studies Trust (ISST), New Delhi. He also served as an independent consultant for ILO and UNESCAP. He has been a member of Agrarian South Network since 2013 and attended four International Summer Schools on Agrarian and Land Questions in the Global South. He has published several research papers and research reports in the domain of sustainable agriculture, rural labour, political economy of resource use and migration.

Nivedita Sharma
Associate Fellow

Dr. Nivedita works as Associate Fellow at CIPT. Areas of her research interest include agricultural economics, rural labour and livelihood. She obtained her Doctoral degree from IIT Roorkee and ICSSR’s Post-Doctoral Fellowship from JNU. She was a Gold Medallist in MA economics from Panjab University Chandigarh.

She was earlier associated with Council for Social Development, New Delhi and ActionAid India office as a consultant. She has also been a member of Agrarian South Network since 2015 and participated in two International Summer Schools on Agrarian and Land Questions in the Global South. She has published several research papers in various journals of international repute on contract farming and other issues related with agrarian economy.

Priyabrata Bhoi
Agricultural Economist

Priyabrata Bhoi is an Agricultural Economist, presently working as a Senior Research Analyst at CIPT. He holds PhD in Agricultural Economics from Punjab Agricultural University, with specialisation in farm management and production economics.

His research interest lies in production economics, econometrics, data management and analysis. His dissertation titled “Dynamics of input use efficiency and profitability in Punjab Agriculture” discuss the structural changes in Punjab agriculture. He is proficienct in using R software for statistical analysis and data management to get meaningful and deep insights from data.
